Concrete Polishing
Polished concrete is concrete that has been process through a series of grinding steps. In this process densifier play important role according to the quality of densifier result may vary so it is very important to use best quality of densifier. Densifier penetrates deep in the concrete to produce the insoluble calcium silicate hydrate with in concrete pores. It will improve abrasion resistance , reduce liquid penetration and dusting and simplifies maintenance.
Concrete polishing is a minimum 6 grinding steps procedure , utilizing progressively finer grinding tools.
Different types of concrete polishing
1.Diamond Polish
2.Hybrid Polish
3.Grid and Seal Polish
1.Diamond Polish
A diamond polished concrete floor is time consuming if done correctly, because there are 6 to 12 steps of actual grinding involve. Generally to start initial grinding with 50-grit diamond and finish with 3000-grit diamond , depending on the exposure level of aggregate and gloss level required.
Throughout the process densifier used to harden the concrete surface which allow the concrete to be polished. The concrete can be also finished with natural look impregnating Polish Guard. This guard penetrates 2-5mm inside the pores of concrete. Preventing any deep staining from oils and spills. But, is also breathable and not a sealer.
2.Hybrid concrete Polish
This system is not consider to be real polished concrete as there is physical refinement of concrete slab.It does provide similar look to polished concrete and may be appropriate in some areas. Typically this system is called as “Half Polish”, generally the surface is only processed through 3 steps of grinding. The surface is densified so the advantages of densifier are inherited then a concrete sealer or concrete guard is used create a shine. The shine is topical and generally requiring high maintenance and reapplication of the material.
Advantages:
- Non Slippery
- Reduces dust mite and allergen problems
- Does not support mold growth
- Improve natural light
- Increase hardness of concrete
- UV stable
